I f****ng forgot to charge the flash yesterday. But the show must go on, right?

I first saw @binsadband back in November at the Union Hotel. One of my friends invited me and said, “I reckon your vibe… post-punk, emo, indie kinda vibes.” Tonight, I came back to see them live again because I wanted to redeem the postponed interview I should’ve done in November.

I arrived around 8pm-ish and got a warm welcome from familiar faces. I love this community. I chatted around for a bit, and someone asked if I brought my camera. Of course I did, duh. But when I realised the flash was dead, I was slightly upset, to be honest. I guess I’d have to push my camera’s capabilities to the limit.

I said hello to one of the members of Binsad and suggested we do the interview outside the venue after the show.

vol. 01 – @revolverupstairs (quick detour in Naarm)

So I just arrived today in Melbourne / Naarm. I’ve been hearing crazy stories about Revolver every time I go clubbing in Sydney / Gadigal, always from strangers. They always say I should go if I ever get the chance. This time, I came to Victorian territory, so as they say, when in Rome, act like the Romans do. But I barely know how to act like a Victorian, so I decided to play it by ear lol.

When I arrived, I tried to say hello to the DJ. I think that’s the most reasonable thing to do. I ordered a Kirin beer because it’s easy to drink. Then I talked with one of the people in the audience. My opening lines were: “Do you play as well?” “Hopefully soon.” “I’m from Sydney, I keep hearing crazy stories about this place.” “I think not all of them are true, but this is a great place.” “I actually want to believe all the stories are true lol.” We both laughed.

Then I ordered a Negroni. After I got it, I asked the bartender what’s so special about Revolver. She said, “This place has been running since the late ’90s. So many legendary DJs have played here. It’s a very cool place to hang around.”

vol. 01 – @szkarza

I met Szkar back on Halloween at the Union Hotel. I saw her doing freestyle singing that night. We finally crossed paths again after three full months. We chatted for a bit by the water in Darling Harbour. It was quite windy that day, but I’d describe it as cinematic wind. Not too strong, not too weak. Everything flowed flawlessly.

She’s currently doing tarot readings every Sunday from 11am to 5pm at 330 Illawarra Rd, Marrickville, (Casablanca). I told her the images on the cards looked scary. She said that while the imagery can feel intimidating, it doesn’t always mean something bad. I asked her what her favourite tarot card was. She said The Moon.

While we walked to the shooting spot, I asked what she’d been listening to lately. She said The Cure. I told her she definitely needed to listen to Friday I’m in Love because it’s a classic.

She asked me what genres I’d been into recently. I said I’d been listening to post-rock. On easy days I’ll listen to jazz, but in the club I lean towards house or techno.

vol 01 - @cosmicboogie.syd

Another month, another cosmic boogie.

They don't need to try hard because they already cool. I always went there with my friends, @anggara12 and @calvinalx , everytime they held an event.

There is one memorable encounter with the bartender when she can't heard my order. Of course it is a club so the music is loud lol. I said sorry it's prob my accent but she said, "it's okay, the music is loud anyway" I was ordering chilled red btw. Thanks for being nice to me. Means a lot.

This is the first time Cosmic Boogie having the international headliner came straight from Europe. @richardfribert . He is from Sweden but currently based in Paris. We actually talked a bit while smoking. I asked him what was the last song he listen before coming to the venue. He said, Two of Hearts by Stacey Q. I F****NG love that song!

Cosmic Boogie was my very first entry for Dot Com Baby, so this event became the foundation before I went on to write 32 journal entries.

Looking back at my interview with @rururubio.dj , the best way to describe Cosmic Boogie is simple: happy-sounding music.
