dot com baby vol. 01 - poor toms
vol. 01 - @poortoms
I saw this event on @anushas.pov ’s feed. It was a joint collaboration between three collectives: @sugarglider.radio , @000cherish , and @patina__________ . As usual, I was there just for the vibe since it’s near my house and I wanted to dance on a Sunday.
I arrived around 3pm because I wanted to talk with Anusha and @allyzli as well. I said hi and chatted with them for a bit before the venue got packed with lots of cool people.
I woke up quite late that day because I went out the night before too. I didn’t get enough sleep, to be honest, but I didn’t want to miss this event. Turns out, it was a banger.
I have a habit of coming by myself so I can push myself to talk to everyone at the venue. By the way, this was a day party. It started at 3pm and ended around 9pm, so people who had work on Monday could still get enough rest afterward. Anyhow, I met some familiar faces at the venue who were also part of the photo series. We did a quick catch up about life and everything else. I also took some photos of people because I just love doing it lol.
There’s another story after I finished my Sunday dance. I met Adam outside the venue. The next story will be in the next post.

dot com baby vol. 01 - idky music
vol. 01 - @idkymusic
The lore last night started with me asking for a guest list to see Idky. I had never seen him play live as a resident for @wavesydney at @mrbs_hotel Basement. Before this, we had only met quarterly, mostly by accident, on random nights.
The venue was loud in a good way, so I suggested bringing earplugs.
After that, we went to the @civichotelsydney and stayed for a bit until someone said, “How about we play at my house?” Another timeline unlocked.
Suddenly, I was in Lidcombe. We chatted while smoking about what our resolutions are this year. By the way, this year is the Year of the Fire Horse. Mine is the Water Rooster, which means I will have stability this year, believe it or not lol.

dot com baby vol. 01 - hawker! magazine
vol. 01 - @hawkermag
It would feel strange if Dot Com Baby didn’t review a dot com magazine.
I found Hawker! Magazine on LinkedIn while job hunting. The platform feels like a bottomless pit where you can find almost anyone from any company you can name. Except a hitman agency lol.
While checking @supper.partying ’s profile, I found out that she runs Hawker! Magazine with @nandassoe . I guess finding them was a happy accident while I was a bit stressed looking for a job.
The first page after the intro is “Around the World in 80 Dumplings”. I learned that in imperial China, people believed food could help heal the body if it resembled the affected part. Dumplings were ear shaped with this idea in mind.
The magazine moves through ingredients, photo series, history, a cooking video, types of porcelain, and even a poem. I won’t go into too much detail here because the website really needs to be viewed on desktop to get the full experience.
This project feels personal to me. I grew up travelling around Southeast Asia with my parents, trying different foods across regions. Even now, I try to eat at least one new thing every week. Lately, that means bouncing between Malaysian restaurants in Campsie, Sydney.
I’m not a professional front end developer, but I did consult with an expert friend when building the Dot Com Baby website. From that perspective, I can say Hawker! Magazine is built with real love and passion, and a level of care you don’t arrive at by accident. The level of design, detail, and execution feels elite. This is not just a good-looking website. It’s carefully crafted by people who clearly know exactly what they’re doing.
You can also get the printed version of Hawker! Magazine on their website. Go get it while you can!

dot com baby vol. 01 - booker magazine
vol. 01 – @bookermagazine
Today, I went to @betterreadbookshop in Newtown to pick up Booker Magazine. My main quest was to read @twomillionfreckles writing, and not long after, I found out that @allegrapezz_ work is also inside.
When I arrived at Newtown Station, I saw an old lady and a bloke having an argument. He shouted, “Why the fuck are you taking a piss outside, you cunt?!” I was literally just a bystander, so I kept walking lol.
I went straight to the bookstore. There were so many books I’d never seen before. When I finally found Booker Magazine, I went straight to the cashier and told her why I was there. She replied, “Yeah, we have so many underground books in here.”
I said, “I like underground, haha.”
Next, I went to Webster Rooftop because your boy needed some vitamin D with a schooner while reading lol. The magazine consists of interviews, photo series, and words. Tbh, I have a habit of reading a paragraph after two sentences, then jumping straight to the end. After that, I reread the paragraph three times. Maybe it’s just me.
ANYHOW, I finished reading the magz in two schooners, so I’d say you should get the print as well.
Extra story: I went home, then decided to get another drink because the day was still long. I went to the bottleshop nearby and grabbed a Canadian Club Dry from the shelves. Then I initiated a convo with the shopkeeper.
“I never got your name.”
“What, my name?”
“Yeah!”
“My name is Quin, not with an E.”
“That’s a cool name.”
“Now, because I’ve been seeing you plenty of times, you know I’m an alcoholic.”
“It doesn’t matter. Everyone needs a drink. Just because I don’t drink right now, it doesn’t mean I don’t drink.”
