vol. 01 – @heist.sydney

Same chaos, different dreams.
Or maybe different chaos, same dreams?

Yesterday I woke up at 4pm. I’d been club hopping the night before, but that’s a story for another day.

ANYWAY, I spent the day flipping the Dot Com Baby website again, reshaping it so it feels more like a journal. The navigation is smoother now. Everything moves more cleanly. I reassembled the whole thing, locked in for five hours straight, until about 1am.

This came after my coding guru @calvinalx (his DJ name is 4Spin btw) told me I needed to focus on two things to make the site more efficient. Pagination and infinite load, if you care.

After 1am, I headed to @abercrombie.sydney . I’d promised @_maxcherry I’d come in any condition, and it turns out my condition was severely dried eyes. She played from 3am to 4am. I honestly don’t care what time she plays. Her playlists never disappoint.

After that, I grabbed a regular mix snack pack with garlic and BBQ sauce from Metro Pita. It’s the closest spot to The Abercrombie.

My night was well spent.
Or maybe my morning was lol.

vol. 01 – Last day of 2025

My day started at @webstersbarnewtown Rooftop. I wanted to see @_maxcherry play live. I had never caught her set in person before. She was playing alongside @bumpin.syd . I stayed for about an hour before saying goodbye to Max.

“I’ll see you on Saturday,” I told her. “In any condition.”

From there, I moved to @theviconthepark to catch @kittyofthevalley_ . They always play in a way that feels slightly unreal. Their music lands better live. I said hi to the whole band and ran into @twomillionfreckles , the director of Venus, Examined. The venue was too loud for a proper conversation, so I typed questions into my phone notes and passed it back and forth between us.

Questions and answers:

When she found the boots, that's the sign she got the first help on earth after she was born? (Such as education etc?)

Yes sort of ! Getting the gumboots were the first sign that she was turning "mortal" ie . Nor direct connection with the land by wearing shoes, she all of a sudden is wearing something to protect herself, shield herself.

Why she decided to go back to the clamp (the womb)?

She realised how devious the world around her is...originally I had her walking into the ocean to go "home" but to us, as the audience it’s and obvious suicide. She is not giving up, in no way. She is tired, she has learnt what she needed to learn.

What do you want to deliver to the audience from Venus, Examined?

A story about the feminine body, about growing up and realising that you carry a weapon with you  ... of love lost and won and lorn. It's about grief and stretching yourself to the extremes in an attempt to outride it, to cheat it. It's about, really, autonomy.

After that, I headed to Lidcombe to visit my friend @maximilianmmj . We played a drinking game, talked for hours, and let the night stretch until it was almost morning.

My friend @yerikhoo drove me home when we decided we were done.

Happy New Year.

vol. 01 – @manfredolament

This time, I wasn’t bored at home collecting dust. I’d just finished an engagement photoshoot around The Rocks and the surrounding area, so this was me making the most of my weekend.

I found out about this band through the drummer, @gabriel_haslam , last weekend. When he mentioned he had an experimental jazz band, my immediate reaction was, “What?!”

As usual, I took some photos of the people at the venue. They ate. So why wouldn’t I photograph them?

One of the audience members said Gabe is one of the best drummers in Sydney right now. Maybe you should catch them live and decide for yourself.

vol. 01 – @_maxcherry

This was my first time meeting Max Cherry in person. We met at the Albion Hotel for a quick chat, mostly because Sydney daytime weather was killing me. We ended up talking a lot about community, what we could do better in the future, and many other things.

Did a photoshoot at a toy shop, arcade, and bookstore. Idk, it just made sense to put her in front of an explosion of colour. I usually see DJs in dark rooms with one colour or blinding lights, so this felt like a good idea.

Max is a full-time Product Development Assistant at a fashion label in Sydney. DJ is one of the things she does well on the side. I listened to her two-hour set while preparing the questions for this interview. She also loves off-roading as a way to escape civilisation.

The genres listed in her bio include UK funky, UKG, house, breaks, jungle etc etc etc.

I think she’s one of the artists you should keep an eye on.
